My mom's reaction to my plant based diet.

So my husband watched Forks Over Knives with me, at the end he looked at me and said "You wanna go on a plant based diet with me?".  Hubs has never felt good after eating dairy or meat or sugar, yet those things have been a staple in our house for all our marriage. Lately he's been desperate for us to eat healthier and Forks Over Knives was just the kick we needed. So I at least have hubbies support on this journey.

But then there is my mother. She tried to buy me my usual caramel latte and I said "No thanks, I'm on a plant based diet starting today." Well that was enough to get her going:

"Oh come on life is short! You don't have to deprive yourself like that, it won't make a big difference.",

"Jesus ate lots of meat, so if he ate it, it must be ok. (morally and physically)."

"Well fine, just let me know what we are allowed to cook for Christmas breakfast then.".

"I don't have a problem eating animals that have a good life and then are killed quickly!" (says the woman who eats gobs of Costco and McDonald bacon every week)

"Of course I wouldn't eat a dog, but that's a cultural thing".

"What are you gonna eat then!? No hot chocolate! I couldn't live that way!"

"I'll watch Forks Over Knives if you read Grain Brain."

"It's proven that we need animal fats to be healthy! I talked to a doctor about this!"

"You're not going to lose any weight on that diet."

Thanks for the support, mom. It's not like I was pushing my new revelations on her, yet she got so defensive! I can't wait for other people to find out about my new plant based lifestyle. : / Needless to say after that conversation I was a bit drained of energy for the rest of the day and a little defeated.  But with all the new fact's I've been learning I'm pretty sure there is no going back for me.
